Abstract: The article describes the device and the principle of operation of the steam generator on the example of the reactor core RBMK-1000 (High Power Channel Reactor). The description of the equipment included in the multiple forced circulation circuits forming the reactor is presented. The process of controlling the flow of coolant in the technological channel of the reactor using shut-off and control valves is considered in detail and the need for automation of this process is substantiated. The problem of synthesis of the automatic control system of shut-off and control valves is formulated and solved. The possibility of using the apparatus of extended frequency characteristics for the frequency analysis of systems with distributed parameters is considered. The problem is formulated and solved to develop a methodology for calculating the settings of a distributed PID controller. Software has been developed for modeling thermal fields in the reactor core
