Abstract: The sociological research conducted by the authors was aimed at a detailed study of tourist stereotypes and values that affect the development of tourist-excursion complexes of the North Caucasus region. Based on the results obtained through questionnaire survey and semantic differential, it can be argued that the tourist stereotype is a mass phenomenon that forms a schematic, emotional and sustainable image of a destination. Design/methodology/approach: In order to study tourist stereotypes and values that affect the development of tourism in the tourist-excursion complex of Caucasian Mineral Waters, the authors conducted a sociological study to identify the impressions of the tourists who visited the region. To analyze open-ended questions, we used the semantic differential method, which allowed us to create mental maps of the region. Findings: The development and formation of ideas about the territory through information channels affect the choice of tourists. Currently, tourism contains not only the potential for the formation of spiritual values, but also becomes a fashion trend and a prestigious way to spend time. The difference in tourism indicators is not only statistics, but also a reflection of changing stereotypes. Originality/value: In our opinion, a deep study of stereotypes, their causes, their emotional component and their impact on the development of tourism, as well as changing these stereotypes under the influence of tourism is one of the most important tasks of tourism activities. It is determined that stereotypes should not distort the view of the world and hinder the cultural enrichment of people in the framework of tourism. The North Caucasus is a truly cultural and colorful region, a hospitable environment for all travelers. The development and promotion of its tourist-excursion facilities can be significantly influenced by professional personnel trained to work in the information sphere of an international nature
