Abstract: In order to improve the cost efficiency of deficit expensive metals, as well as for the import substitution of items, various methods of improving the physicomechanical properties of materials are applied. The subject matter of the article is improvement of wear resistance of hard alloys by impact of high-energy single laser pulse as a consequence of excitation of shock wave in the material. This leads to hardening of local volume of material (up to 30 mm), which is of vital importance for the items, the variations in geometrical parameters of which do not result in a loss of operability
