Abstract: An expression for the analytical relation between the surface energies and electronic work functions of the faces of a metallic crystal is obtained using a modified Frenkel’–Gombas–Zadumkin theory. The anisotropy of the electronic work function of faces and its temperature dependence are studied via the example of 3d metals
