During the process of statistical analysis of Russian dictionary databases certain patterns have been discovered in distribution of polysemous lexical units amongst dictionary sections. Correlations have been deduced between initial graphemes of Russian words, number of their meanings and borrowedness; said correlations were investigated in further research in order to determine their possible practical application. It has been found that calculations based on percentage shares of words possessing initial graphemes which are associated with lower and greater degrees of polysemousness could be used in automated text analysis practices in combination with average word length values to reliably differentiate samples of formal speech from samples of informal speech in Russian languageru
