Abstract: The work is devoted to the dynamics of propagation of internal gravity waves of nonplanetary scale in the adiabatic approximation. Thus, the work does not take into account the Coriolis force, which leads to the fact that the angular velocity of the Earth’s rotation manifests itself in the form of the cyclic frequency of oscillations, which is the determining one. In the absence of the Coriolis force, the buoyancy force becomes the determining force, which is the returning force. The generally accepted viewpoint is the statement that internal gravitational waves oscillate with the buoyancy frequency, namely, the Brent-Väisälä frequency. The analysis of the equations describing the dynamics of internal gravity waves carried out in this paper has shown that this is not so.
