Abstract: The article analyzes the key directions of biotechnology development in crop production. The authors highlight the main problems encountered on the way to this technology development and propose ways of solving some problems based on a critical study of available research. Nowadays, especially in the light of aggravation of existing conflicts between states, the tasks of obtaining safe agricultural products and creating effective technologies of their production are pressing. Crop production should provide an opportunity to meet the needs of people and farm animals, as well as in other needs. In this regard, climatic extremes and high population growth significantly increase the demand for agricultural products all over the world. The goal of food security is therefore of paramount importance. Biotechnology makes it possible to make dramatic changes in crops so that they can withstand negative climatic conditions and other stressors. Plant biotechnology (genetic engineering, genome editing and so on) is used to improve agricultural production.
