Abstract: Objective of the study is to provide a comparative assessment of the level of anxiety in female and male students engaged in rowing under university conditions. Methods and structure of the study. The research was conducted at the Department of Physical Education and Sport of RUDN University. The experimental group comprised students of the sports division in rowing: 18 males and 12 females. The control group consisted of practically healthy students following the standard physical education programme (34 males and 28 females). The level of anxiety was assessed using the A. Kondash methodology as adapted by E.I. Rogov (2010), including scales of situational and personal anxiety. Results and conclusions. The analysis of the obtained data made it possible to identify gender features of the manifestation of anxiety in students engaged in rowing. In male rowers of the experimental group, a significantly higher level of situational anxiety was recorded compared with students of the control group, while the indicators of personal anxiety in males of the experimental and control groups did not differ significantly, remaining within high values. In female rowers of the experimental group, the level of situational anxiety also proved to be significantly higher than the control values and corresponds to a high level, while the level of personal anxiety is lower compared with the control group. Systematic rowing training contributes to the formation of a more stable psycho-emotional background in female students.
