dc.description.abstractThe publication, based on archival materials and sources, discusses the main objectives of Russia’s policy in the Transcaucasus in the 18th century. The centuries-old attempts of Georgian tsars to obtain a Russian protectorate are described. The complex process of preparing and concluding an agreement on the patronage of the Russian Empire over the Georgian kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti (Treaty of Georgievsk on 1783) is presented.
