| Abstract: | The publication, based on archival materials and sources, discusses the main objectives of Russia’s policy in the Transcaucasus in the 18th century. The centuries-old attempts of Georgian tsars to obtain a Russian protectorate are described. The complex process of preparing and concluding an agreement on the patronage of the Russian Empire over the Georgian kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti (Treaty of Georgievsk on 1783) is presented. The analysis of the content of the “friendly agreement”, which became one of the stages in the forced confrontation between Russia and the Ottoman Empire and Persia, is carried out |
