Contradictions of ethnic mosaicism and problems of nation-building in the North Caucasus at the end of the 20th century

Abstract

The article describes the period of origin and activity growth of national public associations in the North Caucasus republics, which led to an increase in the processes of political and interethnic destabilization on the example of illegal actions of the leadership of the Kumyk movement "Tenglik". However, the nationwide "Sadval" Lezghin movement has played a large role in rebuilding and strengthening ties between divided Lezghins. Socio-economic, political and cultural processes in the region serve the need to mitigate interethnic conflicts. The issue of the ethnopolitical crisis in the Chechen Republic is touched upon, destabilizing the situation in Dagestan. The main goal of Russia is the stability of the entire Caucasus, the preservation of the unity and territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
